Its name is inspired by the Carthusian [Cartuxos] monks who, between 1598 and 2019, practice a solitary life of prayer at the Cartuxa Monastery in Évora, owned by the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation.
As a way of reviving one of the traditional ways of producing wines in Adega Cartuxa [Cartuxa Winery], located at Quinta de Valbom, where quality wines have been produced for over two centuries, the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation presents this white wine produced with full tanning, from the varieties Arinto, Roupeiro, Fernão Pires, Trincadeira das Pratas and Malvasia Rei.
